Organized annually before Dussehra in Agra, Ram Barat is a special marriage procession of Lord Ram, forming a key part of the Ramleela that concludes with Dussehra, when Lord Ram defeats Ravana. A temporary ‘Janakpuri’ is set up as the palace of Goddess Sita's father, Raja Janak, and it becomes the hub of the festivities, attracting thousands of devotees.
The procession begins at Lala Channomalji Ki Baradari, winding through Agra’s streets to reach Janakpuri. Lord Ram and his brothers ride elephants, with a silver-leaf-decorated chariot, adorned in stunning bejeweled headgears. Local teenage boys traditionally play the female roles, adding a unique touch to the celebration.
Held annually in October and/or November, the Bateshwar Fair is a month-long festival dedicated to Lord Shiva.
